OUR HISTORY
In 1910, several people assembled to pursue their faith in the form of a Sunday School and soon after organized the North Park Church Society. The North Park Church Society was all about faith and community but had not decided on a denomination for their Society. They decided to become Presbyterian. North Park Presbyterian Church was chartered as a congregation in the Grand Rapids Presbytery on May 10, 1914.
Plans were being made to build a church with help from the Ladies Circle that was established in 1912 to support the community and was very successful. The circle decided to align itself with the church and became the North Park Ladies Circle. When the war broke out, plans for the building were delayed, but the women’s circles continued to work tirelessly to raise money and along with several pledges eventually raised enough funds and the cornerstone was laid November 26, 1921.
North Park Presbyterian Church had several early church leaders and has been blessed over its 100 years with 11 called Pastors and several Stated Supply/Interim pastors. We continue to be a church that welcomes everyone, and a church that was born out of faith and community united. The story of North Park Presbyterian Church is the story of a community spirit – a spirit that found courage in it vision and its sacrifice. It is in this same manner of faith and community that the church has continued to work with and serve its members and the surrounding community today.
